La rentrée is one of the biggest events of the French year. In many countries, early September is end-of-summer-break-and-back-to-school time, but in France it's so much more than that.
La rentrée is the official end of summer vacation and the return to real life, meaning not just a new school year, but also
the return to work and the restart of clubs, sports teams, dance classes, and all the other social gatherings known as associations.
For this reason, many people think of un an as September to August, rather than the Gregorian calendar's January to December.
Today’s issue of Lawless French à fond takes an in-depth look at la rentrée to help you start this new year off sur le bon pied ! 🦶

Vocabulary
📕 Rentrée
The word rentrée comes from the verb rentrer, which means "to return" in reference to a place one goes regularly, where they belong - which often means home, but also work and school. So la rentrée indicates the return to normal life.
⚖️ Note that this is in contrast to the seven other French verbs that mean "to return."
👋 À la rentrée !
Before the start of summer vacation and all through les grandes vacances, when you probably won't see the other person again until September, à la rentrée is the most common way to say "see you later."
